Biopsy
A fine needle biopsy involves the suction of a small quantity of cells from the tissue, for pathologic examination. The cells obtained are examined under the microscope by an onsite specialist pathologist at CNM.
A core biopsy involves the removal of a piece of tissue using a core gun or cutting needle. The sample obtained is examined under the microscope by an onsite specialist pathologist at CNM.
At CNM, biopsies are performed for the following conditions:

Breast Lump - For palpable (easily felt) and non-palpable lumps

Non-palpable lumps are detected using mammograms, ultrasound or a combination of the two.

Ultrasound is used to guide the needle for accurate sampling by our specialist radiologist Dr. Himanshu Kaushik; in the presence of a specialist pathologist.

- Thyroid Disease - For palpable (easily felt) and non-palpable lumps.
- Non-palpable lumps are detected using ultrasound, thyroid uptake scan or a combination of the two.
- Ultrasound is used to guide the needle for accurate sampling by our specialist radiologist Dr. Himanshu Kaushik; in the presence of a specialist pathologist.
- Palpable Lumps in the Body - For palpable (easily felt) and non-palpable lumps
- Non-palpable lumps are detected using CT scans, ultrasound or a combination of the two.
- CT scans or Ultrasound is used to guide the needle for accurate sampling by our specialist radiologist Dr. Himanshu Kaushik; in the presence of a specialist pathologist.
